Yes Goyal, money can buy me a hockey stick but not make me enjoy playing with it. But then, why would I buy a hockey stick? I'll buy a pizza coz I know I'll enjoy eating it!
You said "money can buy you all things in life other than happiness"... such a cliched line.
Suppose there's someone who's real good at painting... but c'mon seriously, unless you make it really big, you're gonna be struggling all your life. He has graduated from an enginnering college, has a good degree. So, he had a decision to take... gus it all and start painting, try and make it big... or take up the software job.
Suppose he decides to paint, gus the job... maybe he makes it big... but maybe he doesn't... if he does, great, his belief paid off... if he doesn't... oops... he's a failed painter... he spends the rest of his life worrying about rents and bills, his child's education, the welfare of his family...
Suppose he decides that he's gonna plan out his life... he's got enough years ahead of him, he's gonna plan it... yes, he enjoys painting but money also matters... he decides he's gonna take up the job... work hard at it for the next 10-15 years of his life... he'll still paint in his free time coz he enjoys it... and if he enjoys it, he'll also find time for it too... inspite of his busy schedule... then, one day, when he has saved enough, when he thinks he has assured his own financial security... and that of his family... he'll say I've had enough... and start to paint... maybe he'll succeed, maybe he'll fail... in both cases, he'll still be ok...
There are 50 overs ahead of you... is it wrong to save your wickets (money in this case) so that you can slog in the end. Particularly, because in real life, there aren't just 2 fielders outside the circle in the first 15 overs. Afridi made the fastest century but he also failed many times. You have only one life... can you afford to fail?

The hockey stick was just an example (ref.: ur example in the previous post).
And I know the line is cliched but don't you think its the truth.
And for the painting example I know it would not be wise to give up a career and at the same time it would also be unwise to give up painting totally.
And life is not a cricket match. You never know when the slog may come. Is it not better to enjoy it when you can than wait for the slog. Also we have also have a Gilchrist for every Afridi. I guess we all know who's the better player. I guess the answer is to slog with moderation (now thats what I call an oxymoron.)
And the thing we agree on. We have a birth right to blabber. More so because our sleeping friends do not care to tell us to shut up. :)
Ha ha... right... you never know when the slog may come... therefore is it not better to play it safe? Unless of course, you're sure you're Gilchrist... who also has his off days...

I guess i am a bit late to respond to it... but i am a sloth when it comes to commenting.... but now since i typed all this stuff...i wud le it go.
I think, both of you are right with your views.... As for rahul...yes...money is essential..... who would like to wake up late in night realising something medically wrong with the dear one and rush to the medical authorities only to be turned out for u couldn't dish out a particularly large amount of money. and what about the child labouring hard in the brick kilns...who has to leave all his dreams and aspirations and collectively put them into the burning fire.... on the outside and within, the fire of hunger. Goyal, letz not restrict ourselves only to a certain strata of society. I agree that India has progressed to a certain better economic condition than previously. More of us are now monetary wise in a better position.... but....yes, the word is but, we still are far from the day when we can actually say that money is not to matter. we still are a poor nation. No matter, we have launched the PSLVs and GSLVs.... we still have farmers commiting suicide at alarming rate. We have developed Agni, Prithvi and all the sophisticated artillery in the world but women still die due to dowry... i guess these all issue have been stagnant ones...everyone quoting them once or the other time but have we done anything about it. Face the fact that we are still in a money minded society because we have a lack of it..... and as more of us "progress", our materialist expansion happens most of us have not evolved intelectually... why i dont know... and i believe me i want to know
why....
on the other point.... i also don't think money is everything.... money can't bring back the stilborn to his mother.... or
money cant make someone love somebody.... we have to agree that in front of nature money is nothing.... we may have spent
billions designing the gizmos to track twisters. predict cyclones, earthquakes... but "KObe, Iran and Bhuj" still does happen... tsunami still kills thousands.... money is what is ruling our lives but then we fall in such situation where even a treasury chest full of money is of no use....
please excuse me to get off the track....sometimes lack of money is also a boon.... who can forget that Narayan murthy didn't or rather cudmn't get into IIT for his father was economically not strong to support him. Itz because of this misfortune of his then, we are fortunate now to have infy as one of the top notch companies of India.
As for aspirations..... rahul itz very easy to say follow ur convictions..... decide ur education.... which field to follow... my view...well again itz also strata dependent.... u, goyal or me can decide that what u want to do and yes we've been lucky that we had level-headed parents who supported us in our pursuit, emotionally as well as financially.... but not all of us are that lucky.... i personally know someone who could have been a great sportsperson of our country for he had amazing level of stamina and strength to carry on... he had to leave all that and focus on helping his dad till farms for he had 5 sisters to get married.... it may appear that i am beating arnd the bush.... so let me just summarise....intelectual freedom is dependent on monetary support (across all sections) which in terms is a reflection of the social conditions....and other factors... what say rahul...

But, since the topic is ubiquitous, I wanted to add something.
I may be wrong, but this has been my feeling..that it all depends on your level of conviction and faith, as to what you want to do in your life and how long you can go on without doing it.
If you feel stifled from doing something that you don't relate to, then, irrespective of your financial condition, for your own well - being, it is necessary to change. Yes, it is going to be a struggle, but that's something that adds flavour to life. Success tastes all the more sweeter because of the bitterness of the struggle.
Besides, life doesn't follow any plan. It just happens. Like love. And, maybe, that's the beauty of it all.
